Layouts

Design multi-zone screen configurations with StreamSign's visual layout editor.

What Are Layouts?

A layout divides a screen into multiple zones, each capable of displaying an independent playlist. This lets you show different types of content simultaneously — for example, a main video in the center, a news ticker along the bottom, and a clock/weather widget on the side.

Creating a Layout

Navigate to Dashboard → Layouts and click "Create Layout":

  1. Choose a starting template or start from a blank canvas
  2. Add zones by clicking "Add Zone"
  3. Resize and position zones using the editor handles and visual stage
  4. Assign a playlist to each zone
  5. Preview the layout to verify zone sizing
  6. Save and publish

Pre-Built Templates

StreamSign includes ready-to-use layout templates:

Full Screen

1 zone

Single content area covering the entire screen. Simplest option for video walls or dedicated displays.

Split Horizontal

2 zones

Two equal columns side by side. Ideal for comparing products or showing content + schedule.

Split Vertical

2 zones

Top and bottom sections. Use for content above and a news ticker below.

L-Shape

3 zones

Main content area with a sidebar and bottom bar. Most popular layout for corporate lobbies.

Grid

4 zones

2×2 grid. Perfect for multi-camera feeds or category-based displays.

Main + Ticker

2 zones

Full-width main area with a slim scrolling ticker along the bottom.

Zone Properties

Each zone in a layout has configurable properties:

  • Position & Size: Visual placement with direct geometry editing
  • Z-Index: Layer order for overlapping zones
  • Background: Fallback color when no content is playing
  • Content Fit: How content scales — contain, cover, fill, or stretch
  • Assigned Playlist: The playlist that plays in this zone

Ticker Bar

The ticker bar is a special zone type that scrolls text horizontally across the screen. Configure scroll speed, direction (left-to-right or right-to-left), font size, text color, and background color. Feed the ticker with static text, supported feeds, or dynamic data widgets.

Best Practices

  • Keep layouts simple — 2-3 zones work well for most use cases
  • Ensure text is large enough to read from viewing distance
  • Avoid overlapping zones unless intentional (e.g., overlay logos)
  • Test layouts on the actual display resolution before deploying
  • Use the preview feature to verify layout appearance before publishing
